The RNLI exists entirely on voluntary contributions and is not supported by the government or Coastguard Agency. In 2011 the lifeboats were launched 8,905 times and 7,976 people were rescued. The RNLI lifeguards assisted 17,671 people saving 84 lives on 163 UK beaches. All this is at a cost and it is people like us that can help keep those lifeboats and beach lifeguards operating.
