RNLI Lifeboat Diverted to Assist Vessel – 1 September 2016

Spirit of West Norfolk

At 6.30pm whilst on exercise Humber Coastguard requested Hunstanton lifeboat to go to the aid of a 4 metre RIB that had broken down off Scolt Head Island.

Hunstanton RNLI lifeboat “Spirit of West Norfolk” on exercise in The Wash was diverted to go to the aid of a vessel that had broken down with one person on board. The 4 metre RIB had been fishing North of the Island when its engine caught fire. The lone sailor had managed to extinguish the fire but could not start his standby outboard engine. His VHF radio had also failed. He managed to contact Humber Coastguard by mobile phone. The lifeboat took the vessel in tow to Brancaster Harbour and moored it up. Our lifeboat returned to station at 8.00pm.

Weather part/cloud. Vis. Good Sea state calm H.W. 7.40pm. Wind W 2
