Lifeboat launch 7 November 2015

At 10.23am Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the Hunstanton lifeboat to assist a 25 foot motor cruiser, with 2 persons on board, that had power failure and had run aground on the Sunk sands about 2 miles out opposite the boathouse.

The Hunstanton lifeboat “Spirit of West Norfolk” launched on service to give assistance. The lifeboat was initially unable to get close to the vessel due to low tide so 2 crew proceeded on foot to ensure everything was OK. The lifeboat stood by the casualty vessel until there was enough water to establish towing operations. This commenced at 11.30am with the lifeboat towing the casualty vessel to a pre-arranged mooring at Brancaster Staithe harbour.

Weather conditions had started to deteriorate around an hour after the service began. The inshore forecast giving wind increasing to F6 veering westerly F8 later. The lifeboat was able to moor the cruiser in Brancaster at 1.18pm. The two occupants thanked the crew for their assistance and were then transferred to the care of the Coastguard at Brancaster beach.

The lifeboat was released at 2.02pm and returned to station arriving at 2.25pm.
