At 3.10pm Humber Coastguard received a 999 call stating that 2 persons were in trouble at Brancaster but unsure of their exact position. In the circumstances both our lifeboat and our hovercraft were tasked to the scene.
On arrival it was found that 2 persons were on the Wreck sands opposite the Golf Club House. Due to the state of the tide our lifeboat “Spirit of West Norfolk” was unable to get near to the casualties. Our hovercraft “Hunstanton Flyer” was able to make contact with the casualties and it was established that they had tried to swim across but went back onto the sands and then walked back along the sands until they reached a shallow point.
The hovercraft crew saw them safely across into the care of the local Coastguard team. Both craft then returned to station.

Stay safe advice to visitors to our coastal areas: be aware of the tide times. Avoid going out on to sandbanks and crossing deep water harbour channels as strong currents can soon put you in trouble.
