Latest News released by Geoff Needham, Lifeboat Press Officer, Hunstanton Lifeboat Station…
Saturday 7th March 2015
Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Hunstanton RNLI lifeboat at 3.01pm to go to the aid of a kite surfer reported to be in trouble off Hunstanton.
Our lifeboat launched and on arrival at the scene, about half mile the Hunstanton side of the Boathouse, they found that the casualty had been dragged from the water onto the beach by other kite surfers who were carrying out CPR. It is reported that the casualty had been in the water for about 45 minutes. Our lifeboat crew went ashore to help with resuscitation and radioed back describing the situation.
Other lifeboat crew at the station ran down to the beach with oxygen and other medical supplies to assist the casualty. The local Coastguard team assisted the air ambulance, and transferred the crew from the land ambulance to the scene. Meanwhile our lifeboat stood by. The casualty was taken to hospital in the air ambulance and everyone was stood down.
This was our first shout this year. Despite all the efforts by our crew, and the paramedics and others, it was later confirmed that the kite surfer had died. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to the Family, relatives and friends.

It is so sad that a sporting activity should end so tragically.
