At 11.40am a kite surfer came to the boathouse and reported that a kite surfer was in trouble off the boathouse.
The Hunstanton lifeboat, the Spirit of West Norfolk, was just about to recover from an exercise, so the crew re-launched and recovered a kite and board. The person involved had managed to make it to the shore. It was also reported that a female surfer was in trouble and a search for her was commenced. It was later confirmed that she had made it ashore and the lifeboat returned to station.
At 2.46pm Humber Coastguard requested the Spirit of West Norfolk to launch as they had received a report of a wind surfer in trouble.
They recovered the surfer and his gear, which had suffered a broken mast, and landed him at Hunstanton sailing club. During the incident a young lad came to the boathouse stating that he had lost his parents. Humber Coastguard was informed and the young lad stayed at the Boathouse until his parents were located. All’s well that ends well.
